Mother's Day

My first Mother's Day was truly wonderful. It started out with Vivian sleeping through the night from 9pm to 6am. That was a really great gift to get! Then Daddy took her downstairs until her first nap so I got to go back to sleep until 9am! Wow, great gift number 2. Next was breakfast in bed. Not sure how much Vivi helped with that but it was delicious non-the-less (there she is sleeping next to me so I think her contribution to breakfast was pretty minimal). I received a lovely card the Vivi "signed" with a little wild scribble and a massage gift certificate to a really nice spa we have down the street. That will be nice after a couple weeks back at work! I also got a lovely nap in the afternoon while Daddy kept Vivi occupied downstairs.
All that was terrific but the truly wonderful thing that happened on Mother's Day was the Baptism of Vivian Louise that night at church. We arrived early to meet with the Pastor and rehearse. They were doing several membership vows, an adult baptism and Vivian's infant baptism that night.
We were blessed to have many friends and most of our home group in the congregation that night to witness our vows and to make their own pledge to aide us in the Christian upbringing of our child. That was very special considering our family could not be present for the ceremony.I was so nervous that Vivian would either cry the entire time we were on stage (and ruin the other people's vows and baptism) or that she would throw up on the Pastor! She actually did a great job. She didn't even cry when the water was placed on her head! One of our friends actually caught the moment on video which was a wonderful surprise. It doesn't include our vows, just the baptism.



I can't think of a better way to spend Mother's Day than to stand on stage and promise that as Vivian's mother I will be a godly example for her, pray for her, teach her the doctrines of our faith, bring her up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and rely on him alone for her salvation. That really sums up what being a mom (or dad) is about. Teaching, nurturing, and setting a good example while at the same time acknowledging that I can't do it without God's help. After church our home group all went out for dinner. Don't be fooled, there are actually several guys in our group too! They just couldn't be there that night for various reasons. We are so grateful to them all for coming and for being a part of our lives.
